Monrovia – Young and creative Liberian Striker Benjamin Sarkoh continues his in-form performance in the Batswana Premiership this season.
Sarkoh, who is on loan from Roller FC, has featured in five matches for his new loan club Notwane FC and is said to be contributing immensely to the team’s success thus far.
In his debut match, in which he did not score but provided an assist, he was considered one of the outstanding players in that encounter, which they won two zero.
Over the weekend, he was able to put behind him his goal drought by netting in the match opener in the 15th minute of the game from a fantastic header as the fans inside the Monopolis Stadium went in huge celebration for the young Liberian striker’s clinical finish.
“It was long coming and at least he has found his scoring shoes. We are so impressed with him since joining us on loan,” said on the Notwane’s officials.
The home side looked always threatening once Sarkoh was seen on the move in anticipation of getting more goals.
Nevertheless, Batswana top side Gaborone United later got settled in the game and cancelled Benjamin’s match opener from striker Patrick Mbamba and later doubled the score line with two additional goals from the penalty spot which were converted by players: Thatayaone Kgamanyane and Obonwe Maome as the home fans had enough reserved energy to cheer their team.
The visitors were seen demotivated by the two goals deficit but was not the case of the electrifying Liberian skillful striker who in the 85th minutes of the game proved his class and extra ability after perfectly controlling a cross from his team mate, well possessed from his chest inside the home side’s 18-yard area and cleverly tops it over the Gaborone United’s goalkeeper, who had no answer from Benjamin’s flick-in as the ball rolled into the net, leaving Sarkoh to record his first brace for Notwane FC.
Even though Benjamin was glad that he had added his name to the team’s scoring sheet this season, he, however, expressed how sad he was that the game still went against them.
“We played well and I am grateful to my colleagues for the team work and collective spirit including our display today. I know with determination, it will get better soon,” he added.
Benjamin said they were narrowly defeated by one of the giants of the Batswana top league. He promised to work harder and with God’s guidance, he will do his best that is always expected of him from the club and his fans.
He has just two goals to his credit from five league games something he noted going forward is not too bad but he will improve on his scoring ability.
Sarkoh also used the occasion to commend Coach Thomas Kojo for his final listing of players for the national team ahead of Liberia’s crucial battle with DR Congo on March 24, 2019.
“I believe in the players he has chosen. I am hopeful we will qualify for our third Nation’s Cup,” he added.
Sarkoh hopes that he can be call in order to justify his inclusion in the senior national team having earlier featured for the Under 20 team.
The former Monrovia Club Breweries’ striker encouraged his younger colleagues in Liberia to always be focused, determined and disciplined if they should move to higher heights in the game. In other remarks, a member of the technical team of Notwane FC stated that he was shocked to see the manner and form in which the Liberian striker has adapted to the team’s style of play so early and is optimistic that Benjamin will do more once given the chance and time to perform.
