According to Mr. Sarnor, their main target this season is to finish the league as champions of the LBA first division to represent the LBA and Liberia in international basketball competition for the first time in the team’s history. Cestors Mongors’ first victory in the LBA 2024 national league was against sensational LPRC Oilers, as they beat the Oil Boys with a 12-point difference, with the match ending 74 to 62 points in their favor.
They followed up that win with another big victory over traditional club Invincible Eleven. IE suffered a 47-point margin defeat to Cestors Mongors, who won the encounter 55 to 8 points against Invincible Eleven (IE). In their third match, the high-flying Mongors team dumped Visioneers 120 to 59 points on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the SKD Sports Complex Gymnasium.
Speaking to the media, the Cestors Mongors president said the results in the early stages of the league are a result of the huge investment they put into the team by bringing on some foreign players. He disclosed that they signed three foreign players, two from Guinea and one from Nigeria, to help his team challenge for the league title. “The foremost thing is that Cestors Mongors is ready for the ongoing LBA national league, and we are prepared and set to win the league. That’s why we have signed three foreign athletes, and they are here to help our team finish the league as champions,” Sarnor said.
Sarnor described the lifting of the FIBA ban on the LBA as very timely because they have been struggling to help improve the skills of youths who have a passion for the game. “We have faced serious setbacks in basketball development for our athletes for the past three to four years after FIBA banned LBA from participating in its sporting activities, but the lifting of the ban is a very good development, and it encourages every club to put in more effort to see how best we can contribute to the youth development of our country,” the team president declared.
Sarnor is therefore calling on his athletes to maintain their skillful ball control and finishing touches as the league season advances because he believes such ball control and finishing touches would help them finish the league as champions.
Meanwhile, Invincible Eleven (IE) on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, defeated Desert Knight 43 to 2 points in the day’s last encounter. Vision Shooters dragged Bushrod Bull 54 to 51 points, all in the first division, while Kardinal lost to Royal Legends 63 to 39 points in the second division encounter. The Liberia Basketball Association (LBA) 2024 national league got underway on March 8, 2024.
