Monrovia, Liberia – President Ellen Johnson on Thursday, June 30, 2016 commissioned the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Republic of Liberia, Cllr. Frederick Cherue and the Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs, Cllr. Harriette G. Badio. The ceremony took place in the Cabinet Room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the heads of various security institutions and senior Cabinet Ministers in attendance.
According to an Executive release, President Sirleaf reminded the two officials that they were taken over their responsibilities in times that she described “worst of times and best of times”.
“It will be the best of times when you can handle your responsibilities effectively to the finish line of this administration and worst of times because there will be serious challenges moving towards the finished line and you will be called upon to act in decisive ways. We will not accept the lame-duck concept with this administration because the government must continue to function fully”, President Sirleaf told the commissioned officials.
President Sirleaf urged the newly commissioned officials to work well with the administration and see the government sail to a successful end of tenure.
Speaking on behalf of the honorees, Justice Minister Frederick Cherue thanked President Sirleaf for honoring him cum family for his appointment as Attorney-General of the Republic of Liberia and pledged his commitment and loyalty to her administration and the people of Liberia. He pointed out that they were mindful of the fact that the commissioning was taking place on the eve of security being turned over to Liberian security forces by the United Nations and expressed confidence that the country will remain safe and protected.
“I thanked God for giving you to Liberians as their leader and for all you have done to take the country to nobler heights. I want to sincerely thank you for the great leadership you have demonstrated over the years that has transformed the country”, he concluded.
