PPCC, UNDP Commence CIPS Certificate Training in Public Procurement

Monrovia – The Public Procurement Concession Commission (PPCC) with support from UNDP is conducting a two-week back to back CIPS level 3 certificate training in public procurement in Monrovia.

About 60 procurement personnel from several line ministries, agencies and commissions as well as UNDP staff are participating.

They form part of a batch of staff who have already successfully completed CIPS Level 2 to date and have shown interest to undertake CIPS 3.

According to the head of PPCC, Dorbor Jallah, CIPS Level 3 will build on gains made in the capacity building mandate area and prepare Liberia’s public sector procurement staff to qualify for UNDP/CIPS Accredited Level 3 Certificate in purchasing and supply.

Mr. Jallah said it is an opportunity for professional staff to gain knowledge that will help them compete internationally.

UNDP Deputy Country Director for Operations, Rokya ye Dieng, congratulated trainees for their interest in seeking advanced knowledge in procurement management.

She expressed the hope that staff will efficiently and effectively utilize the skills acquired for their advancement.

The PPCC seeks to employ a standardized training approach that would professionalize the procurement profession in Liberia through the delivery of internationally accepted procurement training.

It aims at qualifying public sector procurement practitioners for certificates in public procurement and subsequent accreditation by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS), based in UK.

This approach is intended to address these specific objectives: Improve the skills of procurement officers in public procurement; Enhance the level of efficiency in public procurement; Provide relevant professional qualifications for procurement staff; Professionalize the procurement profession in Liberia and Address the human resource constraints faced by many government institutions in the administration of procurement, among others.
