Obituary: Metieh Family Mourns the Passing of Chief Dr. Paul C. Metieh (PCM-1)

With profound sadness, the Metieh family announces the passing of Chief Dr. Paul C. Metieh (PCM-1), who departed this life after a brief illness at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria, in his 84th year.

Born in Nigeria, Dr. Metieh earned his degree from the University of Liberia, his Doctor of Medicine degree from A. M. Dogliotti Medical College of Liberia, and specialized in General Surgery at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, New Jersey, USA. He was a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, United Kingdom.

He served with distinction as Senior Surgeon at John F. Kennedy (JFK) Medical Center, Monrovia, Liberia, for 25 years. During the Liberian civil crisis, he returned to Nigeria with his family, continued his medical career, and operated his private facility, St. Charles Hospital. He also served as Chairman of the Surulere Zone 1 of the Association of Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria and received several awards in recognition of his contributions to medicine and society.

A staunch Catholic and devoted Christian, Dr. Metieh was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Gbaja, Surulere, Lagos, and Patron of the Confraternity of Christian Fathers (CCF). He was also Chief Odoziani of Ashaka Kingdom, Delta State, Nigeria, and President General of the Ashaka Progressive Union.
He is survived by his five children—Paul C. Metieh Jr., Melvin Metieh, Noel Metieh, Emma Metieh-Glassco, and Stephenie O. Metieh—his first wife, Mrs. Mary Metieh, his second wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Boborza Metieh, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many relatives, friends, and colleagues.

He will be laid to rest on Friday, August 21, 2026, in Ugono Orogun, Delta State, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

A surgeon par excellence, devoted Christian, loving father and servant of humanity, Dr. Metieh’s legacy of excellence, compassion, faith, and service will live on. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

This announcement is brought in by: Emma Metieh-Glassco, the daughter of the deceased
