Monrovia – One of Liberia’s longstanding mining enterprises, O. Kamara Group of Companies Inc., has officially resumed operations in the gold and diamond trade, reopening with newly refurbished offices on Carey Street in central Monrovia.
The reopening ceremony was held on February 20, 2026.
Speaking at the event, Oumar S. Kamara, Chief Executive Officer of the company and Secretary General of the Liberia Gold and Diamond Brokers Association, described the return of the company as a milestone for the revitalization of Liberia’s gold and diamond industry.
“Today marks the official opening of the O. Kamara Group of Companies offices here on Carey Street,” Kamara said. “We are asking the Almighty Allah, during this holy month of Ramadan, to forgive us and guide us as we move our businesses forward. We also pray for peace and blessings upon Liberia and for the protection of President Joseph N. Boakai.”
Kamara pledged that his company would collaborate with other gold and diamond dealers across the country to promote growth and stability in the sector. He urged industry players to set aside personal and political differences and work collectively to strengthen the mining business.
“We must be fair with our customers and operate with integrity if we want to succeed,” he emphasized.
Kamara also commended the Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Mines and Energy, for reducing broker license fees from US$1,500 to US$500 — a move he said has provided relief to operators seeking compliance.
He assured the Ministry that members of the association are making efforts to regularize their licenses and remain aligned with national regulations governing the gold and diamond trade.
In addition, Kamara called on Liberian youth to play a constructive role in national development.
“Young people are vital to the progress of this country,” he said. “If the youth remain divided, development will stall. But if they unite and work hard, Liberia can move forward.”
The reopening of O. Kamara Group of Companies comes amid broader efforts to formalize and strengthen Liberia’s artisanal and small-scale mining sector.
