Grand Cape Mount County – The National Association of Cape Mountainians in the Americas (NACA) has donated a container of medical and educational supplies to the people of Grand Cape Mount County.
The items amongst other things include; hospital beds, wheel chairs, drugs and Ebola materials. Others are surgical materials, foam dispenser, reading books, and several other materials intended to address the health needs of the county.Â
Speaking at the turning over ceremony of the materials on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in Tienii Town, Tewor District, Grand Cape Mount County, the Coordinator of NACA in Liberia, Mr. Abbas Bundu said the donation is part of NACA’s way of identifying with the people of Cape Mount County after the deadly Ebola virus which killed over 4,000 Liberians during the outbreak in 2014.
He added that “these materials were sent by your brothers and sisters living in the United State of America to help address some of the medical problems affecting the county.”
He noted that “Cape Mountianians in the Americas are very concerned about the wellbeing of their fellow citizens in the county and as such they he put together the meager resources to help Liberians back home.”
He indicated that “NACA will continue to undertake positive developmental initiatives targeted at impacting the lives of the people.”
For her part, the Superintendent of Grand Cape Mount County, Madam Tenneh S. Kpadebah thanked the NACA family for the donation, adding that it will go a long in addressing some of the medical and educational problems affecting the county.
According to Superintendent Kpadebah, the donation signifies that Cape Mountainians in the Americas cares about the wellbeing of their brothers and sisters back home in Liberia.
She pointed out that the medical supplies will help to strengthen the capacity of the County Health Team in catering for the health needs of the people of Cape Mount especially during these post Ebola recovery period.
Superintendent Kpadebah used the occasion to call on citizens of the county to continue to take preventive measures by washing their hands regularly to help prevent them contracting disease. She disclosed that the medical supplies were distributed amongst the various clinics, health centers, schools and the St. Timothy Government Hospital in Robertsport City.
Commenting on the educational supplies, Madam Kpadebah said her office will work along with the County Education Officer (CEO) Mr. Dwight Harvey to distribute the books and other materials to the various schools across the county.Â
Presenting the medical supplies on behalf of the Superintendent to clinics in Jene Wonde, Dambala, Bambala, the Relieving Commission of Porkpa District, Mr. Philip Quake called on the administers of the clinics to use the materials for its intended purpose and help save the lives of the people.
He informed the Officers-In-Charge (OIC) that the items were sent by Cape Mount citizens living in the Americas.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Damballa Clinic, the OIC; Madam Sianee L. Flomo thanked NACA for the donation and promised to use them for the intended purpose. She added that “the donation, especially the wheel chair is very time, adding that it came at a time where the only one at the clinic is not in a good working condition.”
This is not the first time that NACA has undertaken such a project in Cape Mount. It can be recalled, in 2013, NACA constructed the Konja Bridge in Porkpa District which has created easy access for motorists and pedestrians using the route.
NACA also rehabilitated the Vonzula public School in Garwula District as a means of creating a save learning environment for the students.
Over the last few years, NACA has donated medical supplies to the St. Timothy Government Hospital and provided training for midwifes working in the county.
In a related development, NACA is expected to hold its national convention in America on the 8th of October 2016 under the theme: “Community Empowerment: Building the Bridge for Sustainability”.
“The goal for the convention is to inspire Cape Mountainians, network with organizations and stakeholders, and to seek county leaders and public support in Liberia to construct a multi-purpose County Resource Center (CRC).
The CRC project is approved as a priority which consists of a guest house, a library, and a service station and supermarket attached.
Unlike the Konja Bridge and other projects completed by NACA in the past, the County Resource Center Project is structured to generate capital for sustainability.
In addition, the CRC project is intended to promote creativity and to inspire the citizens of Grand Cape Mount County to utilize resources from the natural environment to change their living standard. NACA truly believe a community empowerment project like the CRC will optimize sustainable development.
