Monrovia Club Breweries and Small Town share the spoils

Despite a goalless draw with Small Town International, Monrovia Club Breweries maintained top spot over Barrack Young Controllers (BYC-II) and Gardnersville FC in continuation of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) second division national league.

Led by captain Marvin Blapoh, the Beer Boys came close to scoring through Nicholas Andrew with a prolific shot in the 13th minute but the ball travelled over the cross bar at a nearly empty Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia on June 22.

Small Town midfielder Albert Dre made the first attempt on goal in the 19th minute but his shot went far from target.

Andrew again came close to scoring in the 36th minute from a pass received from a teammate in the opponent’s penalty box but he lost control of the ball.

Small Town’s Aboubakar Sow made a tactical moved in the defense of Breweries in the 59th minute with a shot on target but goalie Joshua Williams guessed his intention with a beautiful save.

“We still maintained our lead at the top of the table with 41 points and I can assure our fans that nothing is going to stop us from regaining our first division status. I am calling on the players to keep our determination of winning the championship at the end of the league,” said Blapoh.

Small Town head coach Cyrus Nimely said he’ll work on his team’s poor ball possession in future games.

“We could have scored against our opponents in the early minutes of the game if our striker Blamo Kamara could have quickly put into use the splendid passes he got from his teammates.

“My main focus now in the league is to make sure my team maintains her status at the end of the season and I am calling on my players to do all they can in order for them to avoid defeat in our remaining games for the league,” Nimely said.

In the game, Nimba United’s losing spree continued with a 0-1 defeat to ELWA United in the first division.
