Monrovia – A local non-governmental organization, Mission Harvest Liberia Incorporated (MHL) and its international partners on Wednesday, February 28 donated a consignment of reading and textbooks to three institutions in the country.
The three beneficiary schools are the Harbel College in Margibi County, and Pamelia Academy and the Living Water Elementary Junior and Senior High school in Paynesville City, Montserrado County.
Speaking during the presentation at the NGO warehouse in the Stephen Tolbert Estate, Dr. Stephen S. Lendeh, MHL Executive Director, said the donation was aimed at buttressing government’s effort in improving the educational sector of the country by making books available for libraries because students are not using library.
“So, we want to help government in the process for students to utilize the successful usages of the library,” Dr. Lendeh said.
“Because most of the students are always busy with the internet and football game, but whenever they get to school they are not curious to go to the library even when instructors give them assignment to do, they fail to utilize the library.”
“So, this time around we want to make sure that students use the library both high school and universities.”
Dr. Lendeh, who is also the Director of Aid for MHL International, partner of Mission Harvest America (MHA), said beneficiary schools will be monitored regularly for the proper handling of the books by the students.
He assured that his organization’s international partners have the capacity to supply books to many schools in the country once the Government of Liberia grants them duty free privilege for the import of the books.
“We are calling on the government of Liberia to help us by granting this NGO duty free. Once we can get that, we can assure the ministry of education that we can import four to five containers yearly for us to help the schools that are in need both in Monrovia and the rural area,” Dr. Lendeh noted.
Patrick Komoyah, the proprietor of Patmelia Academy one of the beneficiary school, lauded the NGO for the kind gesture and assured the donors of his institution’s commitment to use the books for the intended purpose.
“I want to use this opportunity to appreciate those that gave this donation today and let God multiply our donors so that they can in return help our underprivileged children acquire the best of education,” Mr. Komoyah averred.
Mike Sonpon, the Director of the International Professional Accreditation Association of Africa (IEPAAA), said his organization’s priority is to help schools around the world achieve academic excellence.
“The purpose of this organization is to help schools around the world to meet and exceed academic excellence.”
“We work with schools to help them reach the standard that are acceptable worldwide.”
“So, right now our focus is to help all schools in Liberia that are in need with enough text and reading books to allow students to graduate with the requisite qualification,” he said.
