Monrovia – Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee is expected to embark on a campaign to get citizens and business owners in the city of Monrovia to keep the city clean and green.

The “Weah for Clean City Campaign”, as the operation is called, will be part of plans of a broader national campaign aimed at making Monrovia one of the cleanest and greenest cities in the country.
“The campaign we hope will reach out to every area of society and seek to instill in Monrovia, particularly residents and visitors to this city, the importance of keeping our public places and city clean,” Koijee said.
According to Koijee, the First Lady of Liberia, Madam Clar Weah, is expected to participate in the first Saturday cleanup exercise under the auspices of the Monrovia City Corporation on Saturday, March 3, 2018.
The upcoming exercise will be formally launched at the Rally Time Market , UN Drive, where she (Mrs. Clar Weah) will participate in the collection of waste.
Madam Weah and Monrovia City Mayor Koijee, will lead a walk through from the Broad and Mechlin streets intersection, where senior managers of the Monrovia City Corporation, solid waste supervisors and community leaders would assemble for a parade through the major streets and hot spots for waste collection in Monrovia at 7:00 A.M. and later proceed to Rally Time for the official launch.
This is the first major clean up exercise under Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee who has expressed his commitment to make Monrovia a clean, green, and safe city.
“Weah for Clean City “is intended to engender new dynamism with respect to the First Saturday cleaning-up exercise and strengthen a broader participation of MCC employees and the public, particularly the local communities in order to promote a hygienic and sanitary environment for the residents of Monrovia and its environs in support of the Government of Liberia’s “Pro Poor Agenda”.
The March 3rd Operation will be climaxed at the Stockton Creek solid waste Transfer Station on UN Drive, where the First Lady would be more acquainted with the process of waste collection and disposal in Monrovia.
He added that the campaign launch will target business owners to abide by the laws of city something he said will improve the city.
“Action is required at all levels of society to address the country’s litter problem as an important measure especially as it relates to improving the city,” he said.
