Monrovia – After months of anticipation, Liberia’s top-flight football makes its long-awaited return this weekend as the 2025/2026 LFA Orange First Division League officially kicks off across the country.

The new campaign is expected to deliver fierce competition, emotional comebacks, and fresh rivalries as clubs battle for supremacy in Liberia’s premier football competition.
Defending Champions Fassell FC enter the season as the team to beat after an impressive title-winning campaign, while Black Man Warriors, winners of last season’s Orange Cup, will aim to build on their domestic cup success and push for league glory.
The opening weekend begins with a renewed rivalry between Downtown FC and Gardnerville FC, two newly promoted sides who know each other well from their Second Division days.
The pair will face off at the Tusa Field in Gardnerville at 4:00 PM, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling start to the season.
At the D. Tweh Field, Second Division champions Wologizi FC make their top-flight debut against Freeport FC, who have undergone a strong recruitment drive during the transfer window. Both sides will be eager to make an early statement in their pursuit of stability and success at the highest level.
But perhaps the biggest spotlight of the weekend shines on Borough FC, a club reborn and rebranded.
Formerly known as Global Pharma FC, Borough FC has undergone a complete transformation both on and off the pitch.
The club unveiled a new logo, colors (green and yellow), and identity ahead of the season, symbolizing a new era rooted in community pride and ambition.
Borough FC will host their first home match of the season on Sunday, October 19, at the D. Tweh Field, where they will face off against Bea Mountain FC, a team they defeated twice last season.
The newly rebranded side is hoping to carry that momentum into their new campaign.
“This rebrand is more than just a name change, it’s about reconnecting with our community and giving our fans a club they can truly call their own,” Borough FC’s President Sylvanus Morris told FrontPage Africa. “We’ve strengthened our squad, improved our structure, and our goal is simple to compete for honors and represent Borough with pride.”
The team has added fresh faces, including several young talents and experienced players such as Aloysious Klon, Alex Reeves and Mehnpaine Dolo, who joined on a three-year deal from Invincible Eleven.
Fans have responded with excitement, turning up in numbers at training sessions and online to show their support for the new-look Borough FC.
Elsewhere, Watanga FC travel to Ganta to take on Discoveries S.A. at the Gompa Stadium, while Black Man Warrior last season’s Orange Cup winners clash with LISCR FC at the Tusa Field in what is expected to be one of the weekend’s marquee games.
At the Doris Williams Stadium, LPRC Oilers host Paynesville FC, rounding out an action-packed weekend of football.
As the 2025/2026 LFA Orange First Division season kicks off, all eyes will be on the new faces, fresh rivalries, and the determination of clubs like Borough FC to write their own story in Liberia’s football history.
The excitement is back, the fans are ready and once again, the beautiful game takes center stage in Liberia.
