IE, Barrolle Begin Life In Second Division

Old rivals set to clash in season opener.

Monrovia – In what many football fans once thought unimaginable, Liberia’s two most historic and decorated clubs Invincible Eleven (IE) and Mighty Barrolle will both play in the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Second Division League this season, marking the first time in decades that neither side features in the country’s top flight.

The twin giants of Liberian football suffered relegation at the end of the 2024/2025 Season after a string of disappointing performances that left supporters heartbroken and nostalgic for their glory days.

For many, the drop represents a sobering reminder of how far these once-dominant institutions have fallen.

Invincible Eleven, famously known as the “Sunshine Yellow Boys” and Mighty Barrolle, affectionately called the “Rollers” boast a combined legacy of more than 30 national titles and a proud history of producing some of Liberia’s greatest players including football legend George Weah, who began his career with IE.

Their fierce rivalry once defined Liberian football, drawing packed stadiums and sparking passionate debates across the nation.

Now, both clubs face a new kind of challenge rebuilding from the ground up. Sources within both camps say preparations have been focused on youth development, structure, and discipline. Officials believe this fall could lay the foundation for a greater comeback.

Despite their relegation, the names IE and Barrolle still command deep respect. Fans across Monrovia continue to show loyalty, attending training sessions and friendlies to support their clubs.

“We’ve been down before, but never out,” said Joseph Momo, a longtime Barrolle fan. “This is just another chapter in our story. The Rollers will rise again.”

“It hurts to see them here, but this could be the start of something new,” added Martha Kollie, a passionate IE supporter. “The spirit of the Yellow Boys never dies.”

The two football powerhouses will begin their quest for redemption against each other in a mouthwatering clash on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex Practice Pitch.

The historic encounter will serve as the opening fixture of the 2025/2026 LFA Second Division League, and it’s expected to draw one of the biggest crowds of the season.

For decades, the rivalry between IE and Barrolle defined Liberian football fierce, emotional, and unforgettable. Now, the stage is set for a new chapter, not for championship glory, but for redemption and survival.

Both teams have rebuilt their rosters with young talents and a few veterans determined to restore pride to their iconic colors.

According to club insiders, the ultimate goal this season is to secure promotion back to the First Division and reestablish their dominance. As the new Second Division season unfolds, football enthusiasts will also follow fixtures across the country:

As the ball rolls again across Liberia, all eyes will be on IE vs. Barrolle, a fixture steeped in history, emotion, and pride. Whether it signals the start of a grand comeback or another test of endurance, one truth remains unshaken: Liberia’s football heartbeat still beats through IE and Barrolle no matter the division.
