Monrovia – One of Liberia’s most promising young strikers, Emmanuel Sumo, is on the move.

The 18-year-old forward has completed a one-season loan deal to Israeli side Hapoel Rishon Lezion FC U-19, a significant step forward in his career.
The deal, confirmed this week, sees Sumo join from his parent club, Philadelphia Lone Star FC, which is based in Liberia.
Sumo’s transfer is being hailed as a major breakthrough for Liberian youth football, as he becomes one of the few Liberian teenagers to get a shot in the Israeli football system.
A Look at His Journey
The young forward recently had a highly impactful loan spell with Liberia first division outfit Bea Mountain FC.
In just four months, he turned heads by scoring five goals and registering four assists in 12 appearances, quickly earning a reputation as a clinical finisher with impressive vision and speed.
Sumo, who has also represented Liberia’s U-20 National Team, is grateful for the opportunity and is clear about his ambitions.
“This opportunity is a life-changing experience, and I am so grateful to God for this chance,” he said. “This is not the stopping point of my career.
More achievements are to come. In the next two years, I want to see myself playing in a European competition and with a high-profile club.”
Boost for Liberian Football
The transfer is being viewed by local football analysts as a positive development for Liberia’s player export record, a key part of the country’s ongoing effort to rebuild its international football footprint.
Observers believe that a strong performance at Hapoel Rishon Lezion could pave the way for a permanent move to a European club.
