Monrovia – The court room of the Criminal Court “A” at the Temple of Justice was a scene of shock this week when a woman who is on trial for allegedly killing her husband admitted to the act.
Mandansu Mallah’s confession in open court was made after one of the defendants in the case testified before the court and jury, pointing accusing fingers at her of being the one who killed her husband by poisoning his food.
Defendant Samuka Kanneh, 21, who is also accused of aiding and abetting in the killing of Amara Fofana told the court and jury that the late Fofana was his boss who he had known for five years.
He stated in his testimony that it was during Ramadan in late December 2015 while in the room that the late Fofana told him that he was scheduled to go to Guinea to marry to another woman who his parents have selected for him.
Kanneh continued in his testimony that when he asked the victim about his child’s mother, he replied that his parents were the ones who have selected the woman for him and while in the discussion, defendant Mallah entered the room and probably overheard the conversation between them which led to a heated argument between the defendant and the victim Fofana.
According to Kanneh he advised defendant Mallah not to engage Fofana because the Ramadan was coming to an end and thereafter they were going to discuss the matter, and the defendant agreed.
Defendant Kanneh, who is also standing trial alongside Mallah for murder, said he later left the house after the situation was calmed and went for a walk in the community. When he returned, he said, Mandusu decided to prepare an evening supper and kept his own and that of the victim.
“My food was separated from Amara’s. After all of us had eaten our supper that evening, we all went to bed in the same room.
At midnight, Mandusu woke me up and asked me for us to take Amara out and deposit him in the septic tank; which I did,” said Kanneh who beg the court and jury for forgiveness for his action.
Defendant Mallah, who took the witness stand after the testimony of Kanneh to testify on her own behalf, burst into tears and told the court and jury that she had nothing to say about the death of the late Amara Fofana.
“I have nothing to say about the death of the late Amara Fofana. I regret his death and confess that I have done wrong to the state, court and jury. Please forgive me for such occurrence that led to the death of my late boyfriend,” said defendant Mallah.
According to the court’s indictment, on July 27, 2014, during the night hours, defendant Mandusu Mallah prepared spaghetti with some eggs and mayonnaise for the deceased and burst three old radio batteries.
The indictment continued that she poured out the acid water from the batteries into the juice, she prepared for the deceased and after eating the food he began to experience stomach pain and became helpless while co-defendant Samuka Kanneh and her took the unconscious body and dumped it in the septic tank and covered it.
Following her confession, the court presided over by Judge Boima Kontoe, ordered the case adjourned and rescheduled for final argument to be followed by a jury verdict.
