
Monrovia – The Liberia High School Debate has attracted international recognition with an invitation from Orate Africa Trust, an acclaimed South African-based organization to participate in this year’s Orate Africa Championship Leg 1 from December 7-15, 2017.
The invitation, according to Youth for Change Inc., organizers of the Liberia High School Debate, came about due to the live streaming of the debate.
As per Orate Africa Trust system of debate, Liberia will be represented by 12 players (4 teams), four adjudicators (one per team), one journalist, and two organizers.
Youth for Change Inc. puts the cost of travel for at US$39,189.00.
This includes visa fees, registration, air tickets, African costumes and participant uniform.
The organization called on all well-meaning Liberians, including companies operating in Liberia to contribute financially to help make the trip a success for Liberia.
According to them, the office of the president through the Ministry of State has expressed interest to underwrite air-tickets for the delegates (18 persons). Orange Liberia, according to them, similarly acknowledged receipt of sponsorship package, and is currently considering support this trip as well.
“As its stands, we are urgently seeking urgent support in an amount of 7,500.000USD between now to October 29,2017 for delegates registration (feeding, lodging, transportation) Some of this amount will also be use to get Visa, and process of students passports as well,” Youth for Change indicated.
After an open vetting process done two weeks ago for the Orate Africa Debate Championship schedule for this December in South Africa from the 9-15, 2017, below are the successful candidates expected to make the trip.
Names of participating students are their roles are for team 1: Beulah Nimene, Presenter; Jamaima Tweh, Butresser; John Singbae, Concluder. Team 2: Derris Didi Beyan, Presenter; Youbin Wilsitoe, Butresser; Nathan N. Gbelee, Concluder. Team 3: Diamond Smith, Presenter; Ross Shasha, Butresser and Fadella Ann. Shaibani, Concluder. Team 4: S. Morris Massalay, Presenter; Precious M. Wahpoe, Butresser and Jastina Kessely, Concluder.
