Monrovia – Suspended Bong County Superintendent Selina Polson Mappy is back on the job after Liberian President ellen Johnson-Sirleaf announced her reinstatement Monday.
Madam Mappy was suspended in December 2015 by President Sirleaf on allegation of the misapplication of funds meant for the feasibility study for Gbarnga streets.
According to an executive mansion release, President Sirleaf in a communication informed Superintendent Mappy that an April 20, 2016 letter from the Executive Chairman of the Liberia anti-corruption commission advised that investigation into the allegation established no conduct of criminal culpability and therefore vindicated her and sealed the investigation into the matter.
“on the basis of this conclusion, you are hereby reinstated to the position of Superintendent of Bong County and hereby urge you to take into account the sentiments of the population, existing laws and policies as you consider your future endeavours”, President Sirleaf told Superintendent Mappy.
Mappy confirmed her suspension in a FrontPageAfrica interview last December, acknowledging that some US$250,000.
“I received a call from the Executive Mansion that the President has asked me to step aside as Superintendent of the County to make way for an investigation into the usage of the fund by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC).
The usage of the money came as the result of a resolution signed by seven of the nine lawmakers. This wasn’t a unilateral venture by me and the records are there.”
Polson-Mappy had been dogged by allegations since her appointment to the post which accusers alleging that she awarded inflated contracts to contractors in the County, a charge the Superintendent denied, describing the claims as “manipulated and unsubstantiated”.
