Monrovia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) and the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) have launched a joint drill at the Police Training Academy in Paynesville.
According to the Deputy Inspector General for Operations of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Abraham Kromah, the exercise is part of preparations by the LNP and UNMIL ahead of the October Presidential and Representatives elections.
Col. Kromah disclosed that the Liberia National Police is pleased to partner with UNMIL to ensure that the October elections are violent-free.
“The Police is happy to carry out this drill with UNMIL which we believe can help our officers to improve on their skills in manning the peace of our country”, Col. Kromah said.
He told reporters recently following one of the exercises at the Police Training Academy in Paynesville that UNMIL has lot of professionals and experts that can be of great help to our police especially in preparation for the elections.
He also assured the public that the police under the leadership Col. Gregory Coleman is up to the task to and will ensure that there is order not only in Monrovia, but the entire country.
The Police Operations man also disclosed plans by the Liberia National Police to collaborate with other security institutions in the country to ensure that the election is peaceful and violent-free.
Col. Ahraham Kromah further called on the public to collaborate with the police and other security institutions to ensure that there is peace in Liberia.
Col. Kromah said the ongoing drill is also part of the plans of the National Elections Security Committee, and assured that the joint exercise with UNMIL and the LNP will continue until after the elections.
He used the occasion to reiterate his previous calls to LNP officers throughout the country not to get involved in political activities during and after the elections period.
“We will not hesitate to dismiss any officer who will get involved with political activities”.
Col. Kromah urged the public to report any police officer who engages in politics.
“Report any Police officer found engaging in politics and immediate action will be taken against that individual”, he assured.
Meanwhile, Col. Kromah is commending UNMIL for the collaboration with the LNP over the years, and the ongoing drill at the Police Training Academy.
He pledged the commitment of the LNP’s leadership to the exercise.
