Montserrado County – A Liberia Journalist and Founder of the Watkins Initiative For Nations (WIN) on Sunday officially launched a joint water and sanitation program targeting about 32 communities in Montserrado County, especially District 10.
The project development objective (PDO) is to increase the population access to piped water supply services provided by the Liberia Water and Sewer Cooperation (LWSC) and to undertake sanitation activities in the project areas.
The launch of the joint program coincided with the official dedication of a pump constructed by the Watkins Initiative For Nations which is intended to benefit the over 5,000 residents of Tarr Town Community, located on the Old Road.
WIN believes that though access to water sources in Montserrado has improved, there is still serious challenge for Liberians at community levels to benefit from piped water.
Officially launching the joint project, Journalist Y. Solomon W. Watkins said expanding safe piped water especially in Montserrado is thus a critical priority for him and his team.
According to him, he is always motivated to giving back to his country especially now that Liberia is facing a challenging economic situation.
“With God above, we will continue to do more for humanity. We are committed to doing more because we do know that Liberia is challenged and we must do all to help our people to live an improved life,” Mr. Watkins.
Cutting the ribbon of the newly constructed piped water facility project, Journalist Watkins thanked the community for providing a land for the construction of the pump but call on the residents to maintain the service facility.
Expressing words of appreciation, the Chairman of Tarr Town Community, Mr. Emmanuel Dolo as well as the Head of Elders Mr. Nana Koon respectively, thanked Mr. Watkins and the Initiative for the construction of such a water facility.
Chairman Dolo assured WIN of the community fullest commitment to maintain the pump.
Elder Koon called on Liberians to follow the good example of Journalist Watkins to ensure communities in Liberia lack no development most importantly for access to piped water.
