Monrovia — Margibi County Superintendent Ojay Godfavor Morris has appointed Liberia Football Association (LFA) Executive Committee member and former footballer Christian Weah Sr. as Chairman of the Margibi County Sports Steering Committee ahead of the 2026 National County Sports Meet.

The appointment brings a blend of corporate acumen and seasoned sports administration to Margibi’s technical and organizational setup, as the county seeks to mount a strong title challenge at Liberia’s flagship national sporting festival.
Beyond his role on the LFA Executive Committee, Weah is a prominent Liberian businessman and CEO of the Cabana Hotel, located along the Roberts International Airport (RIA) highway in Lower Margibi County.
A former footballer, Weah also owns second-division women’s club Stages Queens, which is expected to rebrand to Cabana Queens.
Accepting the appointment, Weah described the role as a call to service grounded in unity, transparency, and strategic planning.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to accept my appointment by the Superintendent of Margibi County to serve as Head of the Margibi County Sports Association,” Weah said in his acceptance address. “I accept this responsibility with a clear understanding that this position is not simply about leadership it is about service, unity, accountability, and working together to bring pride and success to the people of Margibi County through sports.”
Weah paid tribute to the outgoing leadership of the Margibi County Sports Association, specifically highlighting former Chairman Tonny Walker for his service and personal sacrifices toward county sports.
Extending an open invitation to Walker and the former executive team to collaborate with the incoming administration, Weah emphasized that leadership changes must not compromise the county’s ultimate objectives.
“Leadership changes, but our common purpose must remain the same the success of Margibi County,” Weah noted. “I therefore extend my hand of partnership to Mr. Walker and every member of the past leadership. There should be no division between the past and present leadership. We are all Margibians, and our county must come first.”
The newly appointed chairman pledged to leverage his background in sports administration, corporate management, and talent development to overhaul the county’s sports structure, improve planning, support athletes and technical staff, and mobilize necessary resources.
He emphasized that building a competitive county team requires broader stakeholder involvement, urging county officials, local businesses, community leaders, diaspora members, and fans to unify behind Margibi’s sports ambitions.
“Success will not be achieved by one chairman or one administration,” Weah added. “I am calling on everyone to put aside differences and join hands. Whether you supported the previous leadership or welcome the new leadership, there is room for you. This is not about individuals; this is about Margibi County.”
Weah concluded his acceptance message with a rallying mandate: “Together, we will work. Together, we will compete. Together, we will succeed. Margibi first. Margibi united. Margibi for victory!”
