PLEEBO, Maryland County – The 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has officially ended across Liberia, with students, education authorities and schools now awaiting the release of the results.

The examination began nationwide on June 1 an brought together thousands of graduating high school students seeking certification for further academic opportunities.
In Maryland County, education officials in the Pleebo and Sodoken Education Districts have expressed optimism over the outcome of this year’s examination, while encouraging candidates to remain patient.
Sodoken Education District Officer Michael Sackie disclosed that a total of 358 candidates from four schools within the district participated in the 2026 WASSCE.
Sackie said authorities are hopeful of improved results this year, noting that lessons from previous examination challenges have helped strengthen the process.
“To the students community, they should be hopeful for now because last year we observed some irregularities in the test, but this time around we expect something good as we await graduations. And to the parents, we are hopeful that we get good number of students who will graduate this year,” Sackie said.
Meanwhile, Pleebo Education District Officer, Melvin Krayee, praised teachers, school administrators, students, and examination officials for ensuring a peaceful and orderly examination process.
Krayee said schools performed well and candidates were cooperative with examiners throughout the period.
However, he urged students not to celebrate before the official results are announced.
“I thank my teaching staff. All schools did well. Everybody was peaceful. Our students were responsive to the examiners, and we are also going around advising them that we have not gotten the results, so they have to be moderate,” Krayee stated.
For many students, completing WASSCE represents the end of a long academic journey and the beginning of a new phase.
Candidate Tarpeh Saylee expressed excitement after completing the examination, describing the moment as one she had long anticipated.
“I am very impressed because for a very long time I have been wishing for this test and today I’m happy that I finished writing this test,” she said.
Saylee encouraged students to remain focused and patient, advising them not to drop out of school.
Another candidate, Smith Wisner, said he remains hopeful that he and his colleagues will pass the examination and continue their education at the university level.
“I’m hopeful that we pass this test so that we can further our education at the university,” Wisner said.
As candidates await the release of results by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), education stakeholders are hopeful that the performance of students will reflect the efforts invested by schools, teachers, parents, and learners throughout the academic year.
