FISH TOWN, River Gee County — Authorities in River Gee County have launched an investigation following the discovery of an unidentified man’s body in Nehsinmehn Creek, making it the second body recovered from the same creek within seven days.

The latest discovery was made during the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 17 when residents found the body of an unidentified man floating in the creek near Fish-Town.
According to a local media report in the county, eyewitness, Prince Doe said he discovered the body around 7:15 a.m. while heading into a nearby bush area.
Doe explained that he initially became frightened after noticing what appeared to be a human body in the water and quickly returned to alert other community members, who later confirmed the discovery.
The deceased man, believed to be in his early 40s, was found fully clothed, wearing a red shirt and black trouser. No one in the community has reported seeing him before the incident and his identity remains unknown.
Speaking to FrontPage Africa via phone on Thursday, June 18, River Gee County Police Commander, Theophilus Togba, confirmed that the Liberia National Police has launched an investigation into the matter.
Commander Togba said police displayed the remains to residents in an effort to identify the deceased, but no one was able to recognize or claim the body.
Following the unsuccessful identification process, the remains were turned over to the Fish-Town City authorities for burial.
According to River Gee County Coroner Jerry Kear and other jurors, who examined the body, no visible injuries were observed and there were no immediate signs suggesting foul play.
The discovery of the man’s body came days after another unrelated incident involving the death of a new born baby at the same creek.
On Friday, June 12, residents of the Super-Garrie Community in Fish-Town discovered the lifeless body of a newborn baby boy in Nehsinmehn Creek.
The baby was found floating face down in the water by young men who regularly wash motorcycles and vehicles at the creek.
Residents said the infant appeared to be only a day old, with the umbilical cord reportedly still attached.
The incident also prompted concerns among community members, but no family has publicly reported a missing newborn case.
The Liberia National Police was alerted and authorities gathered preliminary information surrounding the infant’s death.
Although both incidents occurred at the same creek within one week, authorities have not established any connection between the two cases.
Residents of Fish-Town are now calling for continued investigation into both incidents, as they await answers regarding the identities and circumstances surrounding the deaths.
As of the time of reporting, police had not identified the man, confirmed the cause of his death, but say investigation continues.
