Monrovia – Three senior officials of Liberia’s Ministry of Transport have returned from a 13-day intensive road safety and management training in Istanbul, Turkey, aimed at strengthening the country’s transport infrastructure and safety systems.
The training, held from January 12 to 26, focused on key areas including road access management, road financing, and road safety enhancement. Participants were Engr. Zunu Kokolo Duyann, Assistant Minister for Land and Rail Transport; Jasper N. White, Director for Land Transport; and Zinnah Tarweh Hills, Research Assistant to the Minister of Transport.
The program was organized by the International Road Federation (IRF) in collaboration with Road Safety Action International (RSAI) and sponsored by the Government of Liberia. It was facilitated by Professor Amin K. Akhnoukh, PhD, PE, a United States–based expert in road engineering and safety management.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Assistant Minister Duyann expressed appreciation to President Joseph Boakai and Minister of Transport Sirleaf Ralph Tyler for the opportunity, describing the training as aligned with the government’s ARREST Agenda. He pledged that the knowledge acquired would be promptly applied to improve road safety and transport management nationwide.
As part of the program, the delegation toured one of Istanbul’s largest traffic control rooms, where they gained hands-on exposure to advanced traffic monitoring, maintenance, and operational systems.
Assistant Minister Duyann said the expertise gained from the training is expected to contribute significantly to safer and more efficient road networks across Liberia, in support of the country’s broader development objectives.
