MONROVIA – As part of the Ministry of Post & Telecommunications’ reform strategy to generate government revenue, three persons have been caught diverting revenue to their personal use.
Minister Cooper W. Kruah Sr. established a cash management control system and introduced new measures for customers to receive and deliver packages through the post offices from Liberia to a more effective and efficient process.
One of the new measures introduced was to do pre-weighing of packages to give the customers an opportunity to know whether or not he or she has the capacity to pay the same day.
Other new measure introduced by the administration is monthly senior staff meeting that will track the performance status of every department heads and Directors at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.
Speaking during the senior staff meeting on Friday, January 18, 2019, Minister Kruah and his deputies addressed key issues affecting departments’ heads and the way forward.
The Minister warned employees who are not assigned in a particular area to refrain from participating in jobs that are not related to their assignment.
“Under the new procedure, there is a counter responsible for weighing and if you are not assigned there, you are not supposed to be on the counter,” he stated
“This meeting is part of a process that will expose us to what is happening in each of our departments” he stated.
He commended the Inspectorate division for exposing some of the ills in the ministry one of which was the recent illegal act conducted by three employees of the ministry.
He also indicated that the inspectorates division made the discovery of the three employees through the routine work.
The three employees are, Chris Pah, Mr. Jardia McGill, and Mr. Philip Gaye. According to the investigations the three employees tampered with the weight on packages to reduce the payment that was supposed to be made by the customers who brought in the packages.
Meanwhile, after investigation was conducted, the three employees involved admitted to the allegation and brought forth the LD8000.00 which has the difference in the payment that would have been made in the adjusted weight.
The Minister rejected their offer to pay the money back on ground that this will set a bad precedence for those who want to encourage into corrupt act at the minister and ordered their immediate dismissal.
