Monrovia – The Supreme Court of Liberia has sentenced Justine Oldpa Yeazeahn, popularly known as Prophet Key, to six months in prison for contempt.
The ruling was handed down on Friday, a day after Prophet Key appeared before the Full Bench of the Supreme Court and pleaded guilty, asking the justices to temper justice with mercy.
Prophet Key had been summoned by the High Court to show cause why he should not be held in contempt for publicly ridiculing the Court. The charges stemmed from social media statements in which he verbally attacked Chief Justice Yarmin Quiqui Gbeisay and his mother, and accused the Supreme Court of corruption.
In its decision, the Court found his actions contemptuous and damaging to the integrity of the judiciary, warranting a custodial sentence.
