Family sources have confirmed that Jarsey died in India where he had been receiving medical treatment for a protracted illness over the past two months.

Condolences have been pouring in from prominent figures across the country, highlighting his legacy as a powerful advocate for youth and education. Jarsey’s passing has prompted an outpouring of grief and tribute, with many recalling his dedication to student activism.

Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe expressed deep personal sadness over the death of the young leader, sharing his recollections on social media.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Varney Jarsey, former President of LINSU, a bright, courageous and promising young man whose passion for service inspired many,” Senator Snowe wrote.

“During his illness, we were privileged to be part of the efforts that took him to India for treatment.”

Senator Snowe noted the personal connection, adding: “His loss hits close to home; I have known Varney for many years, and his uncle works for me as a contractor, making this loss feel deeply personal. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, the student community and his loved ones during this painful time. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”

Deputy Minister of State, Cornelia Kruh also shared an emotional tribute, focusing on Jarsey’s impact on political reform movements.

“I really don’t know how to react, Prezo,” she posted. “You’ll live through the Reformist Movement! Thanks for instilling bravery and the fighting spirit. Ayyyy Prezo! May Allah forgive your sins and accept your soul.”

Meanwhile, Liberia’s Ambassador to Senegal, Ali Sylla, highlighted Jarsey’s resilient history as an activist.

“Comrade Rest Well and Your legacy Lives On,” Ambassador Sylla commented. “Varney Jarsey, as a young man in Post War Liberia, he became an advocate for youth and students’ education.

He survived imprisonment and assassination attempt by the enemy forces, went on to become the President of LINSU from behind the rustic bar of Monrovia Central Prison.”

Ambassador Sylla further lauded his international success, noting, “He later won the presidency of the All African Students Union, for his activism. He was a hero of the poor people’s struggle.”

Jarsey’s legacy is remembered through his fervent dedication to student rights and his rise from a challenged background to a prominent student leader both nationally and across the African continent.
