Weala, Margibi – The Salala Rubber Corporation (SRC) recently distributed bags of 25-kg rice to families within its concessions areas in Margibi County’s District #5.
The company, headquartered in Weala, Margibi, is one of few natural rubber producing companies in Liberia.
The rice and other item distribution, which are part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility to residents of communities within its concessions area, was intended to identify with those Liberians as they celebrated their 172nd Independence Anniversary few days in July 2019.
The company said by doing this, it wants to stay positively engaged with its workers and others who reside in those communities.
Since obtaining a concession agreement from the Liberian Government on August 1, 1959 during the administration of President William V.S. Tubman, it has continually honored its corporate social responsibility and remained engaged with various communities surrounding and within the concession.
In addition to the food items it gives out, the company also provides health and educational facilities for the thousands of residents and their children of the district. It also provides basic amenities, including safe and clean drinking water, which is obtained from hand pumps installed in most of the major towns and villages.
During this year’s festive rice distribution, SRC management informed locals that they remain committed to them in spite of the difficult economy times, including the low price of natural rubber on the world market.
In response to the company’s gesture, the town chief of Kuwa –Ta, Alphonso Kpannah said they were delighted to always receive rice and other gift items from the SRC management. Kpannah used the occasion to appeal to the company to complete the school it began constructing for the kids of the town.
For her part, the town chief of Dennis Farm, Madam Konnah Dennis said, “SRC always thinks about them and how to improve their livelihood.”
Junior Flomo, one of many cluster heads, said he will continue to pray that the SRC continues to operate in the area. He promised they will also help to serve as security to protect the company’s assets in their communities.
Oldman Fahn Paper, town chief of Fahn Paper Town, said he can’t believe that the company will continue to give rice and other gift items amidst the hard time the company is faced with.
Massaquoi town chief, Stephen Fallah, wish for more cordial relations between them and the company. For him, he sees more brighter days ahead for the company and them. Sixty-six towns and villages benefited from the company’s rice distribution gesture.
