Ganta, Nimba County – The Rescue Intellectual Brigade (RIB), a group aligned with the ruling Unity Party(UP), has expressed serious concern over recent social media posts that allege Vice President Jeremiah Koung’s involvement in the ongoing US$19.2 million cocaine bust.

In a statement issued by T. Kelvin Shelton, Security General and Bilton B. Leesalah, Chairman of the RIB on Thursday, July 9, described the posts as “reckless, irresponsible, misleading’’ and lack credible evidence.
The group said its members have known Jeremiah Koung for many years long before he assumed the vice presidency and described him as an approachable public servant who regularly interacts with Liberians from all walks of life.
“The Vice President cannot reasonably be held accountable for the personal conduct of every individual who has ever come around him,” the RIB stated.
The RIB urged social media users and online posters to stop using platforms to circulate speculation that damages reputations or undermines the integrity of national leaders without verified facts.
The group warned that public commentary must be guided by evidence, fairness and responsibility rather than assumptions and sensationalism.
Shelton and Leesalah said RIB members are monitoring the situation closely and called on journalists, influencers and citizens to verify claims before sharing them, citing the potential harm unverified allegations can inflict on individuals and national discourse.
The RIB also signaled readiness to defend the Vice President’s reputation should these reckless character attacks continue. “The Rescue Intellectual Brigade will vigorously response through every lawful and appropriate democratic avenue available to defend the integrity and reputation of the Vice President against what we consider unfair and misleading narratives.”
The group encouraged relevant authorities and investigative bodies to pursue transparent, evidence-based inquiries into the matter if warranted, and to publish findings promptly to prevent further misinformation.
