GREECE– The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has announced significant achievements from its participation in Posidonia 2026, the world’s premier international shipping and maritime exhibition currently being held in Athens, Greece.
The Commissioner/CEO of the Liberia Maritime Authority, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., has engaged in a series of high-level meetings with shipowners, vessel managers, maritime investors, classification societies and industry stakeholders from across the globe.
These strategic engagements have yielded promising results for Liberia’s maritime sector and further strengthened the country’s position as one of the world’s leading ship registries.
As a direct outcome of discussions held during the exhibition, approximately 150 new vessels are expected to join the Liberian Registry, representing a major boost to Liberia’s flagship program and reinforcing international confidence in the Liberian maritime administration.
In addition to the anticipated fleet expansion, several shipowners and maritime operators have expressed increased interest in recruiting Liberian seafarers for employment aboard their vessels.
This development is expected to create new opportunities for qualified Liberian maritime professionals and contribute to the Government’s broader agenda of job creation and human capital development.
Speaking from Athens, Commissioner/CEO Lighe emphasized that Liberia’s participation at Posidonia 2026 demonstrates the country’s commitment to maintaining excellence in maritime administration and expanding partnerships within the global shipping industry.
“Our engagements at Posidonia 2026 have been highly productive and affirm Liberia’s reputation as a trusted and preferred maritime flag state. The interest shown by international shipowners in registering additional vessels under the Liberian flag and employing more Liberian seafarers reflects the confidence that the global maritime community continues to place in Liberia,” the Commissioner/CEO stated.
Commissioner/CEO Lighe further noted that the anticipated addition of over 150 vessels to the Liberian Registry will strengthen the country’s standing among the world’s top maritime nations while generating additional revenues and opportunities for national development.
