Liberia: Raji Calls for US$200K Guarantee for Clubs in Africa, Urges US$1M Annual Government Support

MONROVIA – The President of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), Mustapha I. Raji, has called on the Liberian Government to guarantee financial backing for local clubs that qualify for international competitions.

Speaking passionately on the issue, Raji said there must be assurance that any Liberian club qualifying for continental tournaments receives at least US$200,000 to support its participation.

“We need a guarantee that when our club team qualifies for international competition, government should make available US$200,000 for their participation,” Raji stated.

He expressed confidence that such an initiative could materialize under the leadership of Joseph Boakai.

“Can it happen under the leadership of President Boakai? Yes, I believe it can happen,” he said, adding that many of the players representing local clubs also form the core of the national team setup.

Raji further broadened his appeal, urging the national government to commit a minimum of US$1 million annually toward football development in Liberia.

“Again, it’s a reminder and appeal to the National Government to allocate a minimum of a million dollars for football development in our country,” he emphasized.

The LFA President’s proposal comes amid ongoing discussions about sustainable funding for sports in Liberia, particularly as clubs continue to face financial challenges when representing the country in African competitions.

The call  if heeded, could significantly boost Liberia’s competitiveness on the continental stage while strengthening grassroots and elite football structures nationwide.
