Monrovia – The administration of the Professional Journalism School of Liberia (PJSL) has clarified that it is operating legally and in full compliance with national educational regulations, following statements made during a Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) press briefing on Tuesday, June 24.
The statement listed PJSL among institutions allegedly operating without the knowledge of the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, PJSL confirmed that it is a duly registered institution with the Liberia Business Registry, having secured its business registration since November 30, 2019. The school further stated that it holds a valid operational permit from the Ministry of Education, which was renewed in March 2025.
“As a vocational and professional school offering diploma and certificate programs in journalism and media-related disciplines, PJSL operates under the regulatory framework of the Ministry of Education,” the statement noted. “We fully recognize the mandate of the NCHE, which governs degree-awarding institutions. However, PJSL does not fall within that category.”
PJSL emphasized that it remains compliant with all applicable laws and policies governing professional and technical institutions in Liberia. The school called for collaboration and clarification among regulatory agencies to ensure consistency across the education sector.
“We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, professional development, and legal compliance,” the administration said. “Our operations are lawful, transparent, and fully aligned with the national educational framework.”
PJSL assured students, parents, and the general public of its legitimacy and encouraged anyone seeking confirmation of its accreditation or operational status to contact its administrative office directly or use its official communication platforms.
The institution expressed gratitude for the continued trust and support it has received and reaffirmed its commitment to training ethical, informed, and dynamic journalists to serve Liberia and the region.
