Boriis B. Barlea said building on previous successes aims to expand his efforts to improve infrastructure, empower women and youth and promote vocational education to uplift communities.
Addressing reporters in Ganta, Mr. Barlea emphasized his commitment to resuming and enhancing development initiatives in various towns and villages throughout District Five.
These efforts, according to Mr. Barlea, seek to alleviate persistent social and economic challenges, particularly in rural areas.
Road rehabilitation to boost accessibility, one of the cornerstone projects Mr. Barlea highlighted is the ongoing rehabilitation of farm-to-market roads.
Mr. Barlea pointed out that this vital infrastructure work, which played a significant role during the recent representative by-election, aims to connect remote communities with markets and essential services, improving the flow of goods and fostering economic activity.
Mr. Barlea pledged to continue and expand these road improvement projects, ensuring safer and more reliable transportation for residents.
Empowering Women, Girls and Youth
Recognizing the pivotal role of women and youth in community development, Mr. Barlea plans to introduce targeted programs focused on empowerment and skill-building.
“Women, single mothers, girls and young people will receive vocational skills training designed to enhance their independence and improve their livelihood,” Mr. Barlea stated.
‘‘These programs, to be implemented primarily in the Buu-Yao Administrative District, will cover trades and skills relevant to local economic opportunities—enabling participants to engage in productive and income-generating activities that improve their quality of life,’’ he said.
Agricultural Development and Farmer Support
A key pillar of Mr. Barlea’s developmental agenda is agriculture, viewed as a business engine vital to District Five’s economy.
As Chief Executive Director of the Liberia Farmers Development Collaboration, Mr. Barlea announced the launch of a farmers’ cash support program coupled with a three-month agriculture training school.
This initiative targets both male and female farmers, equipping them with modern farming techniques, financial literacy and access to capital to boost productivity and sustainability.
“Agriculture is not just subsistence; it is a business that needs investment and knowledge. Our program will empower farmers to increase yields and profits, thereby strengthening food security and economic stability in the region,’’ he stressed.
“Continuous Commitment to District Development Despite the challenges encountered during the recent representative by-election.’’
Mr. Barlea affirmed his unwavering dedication to serving the district through ongoing development activities.
Alongside infrastructure and vocational programs, Mr. Barlea also aims to expand social welfare initiatives, provide youth engagement opportunities, and foster community leadership.
“My work will not stop here. The people of District Five deserve sustained development and hope. We will continue to partner with communities, NGOs and government agencies to ensure lasting progress for every citizen,” he added.
