Sanniquellie, Nimba County – Nimba County Administration, led by Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono, has constructed and officially handed over a fully furnished modern apartment to the Liberia National Police (LNP).

This state-of-the-art residence in Sanniquellie City, Nimba County will serve as the permanent home for the County Police Commander, ensuring a stable base amid the region’s dynamic security needs.
The handover ceremony unfolded on Friday, February 20, 2026 under clear skies in the heart of Sanniquellie, Nimba County’s bustling administrative hub.
The event drew a vibrant crowd of local authorities, uniformed security officials, traditional leaders in colorful regalia and enthusiastic community members from surrounding villages.
Among the distinguished guests was Inspector General of Police Gregory O. W. Coleman, whose presence underscored the national significance of the occasion.
Supt. Gono, dressed in a crisp traditional gown, cut the ceremonial ribbon alongside IGP Coleman, revealing the sleek three bedrooms apartment equipped with essential amenities like solar-powered lighting, secure fencing and a small office space tailored for police operations.
The building’s contemporary design featuring durable concrete walls, tiled floors and expansive windows stands as a symbol of Nimba’s progress, contrasting with the modest structures typical of rural Liberia.
In his keynote address, delivered from a flower-adorned podium, IGP Coleman conveyed deep appreciation to the Nimba County leadership.
“This is a game-changer for our officers’ welfare and operational effectiveness,” he declared, his voice resonating over the cheering crowd.
He highlighted how decent housing boosts morale, reduces turnover and allows commanders to focus on community policing rather than personal hardships.
“Without security, development will be undermined,” IG Coleman emphasized, linking the initiative to Nimba’s history of resilience from its role in Liberia’s civil conflicts to its current mining-driven economic boom.
Supt. Gono echoed these sentiments, praising the Liberia National Police (LNP) tireless efforts in curbing cross-border crimes and maintaining harmony in a county bordering Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea.
She announced plans for similar projects, signaling a deeper partnership between local governance and national security to foster peace.
This dedication not only elevates the living standards of police leadership but also reinforces collaborative efforts between county authorities and national institutions.
