Monrovia — Traditional and local government authorities in Grand Cape Mount County have praised the Matambo Construction and Mining Cooperative (MUTACCO) Inc. for launching the county’s first construction and mining cooperative, describing it as a major boost for local employment and development.

The official launch took place on Sunday, January 11, 2026, in Jenewonde Town, Meimassa Clan, Tewar District. The event drew community leaders, cooperative members, and residents from across the district.
Speaking at the ceremony, Paramount Chief Mustapha Paasewe of Tewar District welcomed MUTACCO’s presence in the county, noting that the cooperative would help create construction-related job opportunities for skilled Capemountians.
“I am happy that MUTACCO has come to Cape Mount to help our people who are specialized in construction. I call on other Capemountians to emulate this example by creating jobs for skilled citizens for the collective growth and development of our county,” Chief Paasewe said.
Also addressing the gathering, Bo Township Commissioner Madam Mamu Paasewe described the launch as timely and significant. She expressed hope that the initiative would encourage experienced Capemountian professionals in the construction sector to return home and contribute to modern infrastructure development in the county.
“The presence of MUTACCO will help place Cape Mount back on course with other counties in professional building construction,” the commissioner said.
MUTACCO Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Abdullah Rogers, said the cooperative’s primary objective is to advocate for job creation and economic empowerment, particularly for Capemountians trained in construction and engineering.
“MUTACCO was established in 2023. In 2024, we secured our first contract with Bea Mountain Mining Company, but operations were disrupted by the February 27–28, 2024 protest along the Matambo Corridor,” Rogers explained. “In 2025, we were awarded another contract by the same company, which enabled us to officially launch our operations here in Cape Mount.”
Mr. Rogers used the occasion to appeal to government officials, private institutions, and citizens at home and in the diaspora to support MUTACCO by awarding contracts that would allow the cooperative to remain active and sustainable.
The Matambo Construction and Mining Cooperative Inc. is made up of trained and professional Liberians with diverse skills in construction, engineering, and mining, positioning it as a homegrown initiative aimed at strengthening local capacity and promoting inclusive development in Grand Cape Mount County.
