Ganta – In a vibrant gathering filled with cheers and high energy, partisans, officials and supporters of the Movement for Democratic Reconstitution (MDR) Party in Nimba County, warmly welcomed the appointment of Melvin Yealu Jr., a founding member, as Vice Chairman for Mobilization.

The late Senator Prince Yormie Johnson, the party’s visionary founder, left an enduring legacy of advocacy for democratic reforms and national unity, and party members view Mr. Yealu’s addition to the leadership as a pivotal step to carry that torch forward.
Under a canopy of colorful party banners fluttering in the warm Ganta breeze, attendees described the decision as not just strategic, but a “game-changer” for the MDR’s future and Liberia as a whole.
The event, held at a bustling community hall in Ganta Nimba’s commercial hub known for its resilient spirit, drew hundreds of enthusiastic Nimbaians, many waving MDR flags and chanting slogans in honor of Johnson’s memory.
Youth leader Benedict Tobey, the MDR Party Youth Chairman, captured the crowd’s excitement:
“We are thrilled to hear this news. Melvin Yealu Jr. brings fresh energy and proven commitment. We pledge to fully welcome and work alongside him for the betterment of our party and our communities.’’
Nimba County Chairman Austin Dayneah echoed the sentiment, calling Yealu’s appointment a “divine blessing” for the MDR.
He revealed that all 15 county chairmen had unanimously advocated for Mr. Yealu’s elevation, recognizing his deep roots as a founding member and his track record in grassroots mobilization.
“We stand in full support of his appointment,” Dayneah declared amid applause.
“We will collaborate with him tirelessly until he achieves his goals of unity and progress,” Cyrus Dopoe, Assistant Secretary for Press and Propaganda also pledged his unwavering support.
Speaking from the podium adorned with Johnson’s portraits, Mr. Dopoe emphasized the need for collective action: “Together with Mr. Melvin Yealu Jr., we will propel the party forward, amplifying our message across Nimba and beyond.”
In his address, Melvin Yealu Jr., a charismatic figure with years of dedication to the MDR’s ideals, outlined an ambitious transformation agenda.
He vowed to foster unity and love within the ranks, urging Nimbaians to embrace the MDR as “their own party, a vehicle for real change.”
Lamenting the irreplaceable loss of Senator Johnson, whose dreams of a reconstituted, equitable Liberia inspired the party’s birth in the post-conflict era, Mr. Yealu promised to keep that legacy alive.
“We will build on his foundation,” he said passionately, “through inclusive mobilization efforts, youth empowerment programs, and outreach to every corner of Nimba County. This is our moment to transform challenges into triumphs,’’ he added.
The announcement signals a new chapter for the MDR Party, which has long championed decentralization, anti-corruption measures, and economic revitalization in rural areas like Nimba.
Supporters left the event optimistic, buzzing about upcoming mobilization drives that could strengthen the party’s influence ahead of future elections.
