The workshop, which commenced on Monday in Kakata, Margibi County, aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of county-level and central-level Planning and M&E Officers. A total of 16 M&E and 16 Planning Officers from across the country are participating in the training.

Assistant Minister for Planning, Research, and Development, Thomas M. Parker, highlighted that the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) workshop is supported by UNICEF Liberia.

He emphasized that the training is designed to strengthen the capacity of county-level and central-level officers in planning and M&E, ensuring they are better equipped to support evidence-based planning and decision-making.

Assistant Minister Parker further explained that the workshop is providing participants with a clear understanding of the Ministry’s key programs, utilizing the Education Sector Plan (ESP), Operational Plan (OP), and Annual Work Plan (AWP).

Additionally, the training, he said, is aimed at connecting these programs with national development goals under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development and its MEL framework.

Assistant Minister Parker further disclosed that the training also introduces standard reporting tools to improve coordination and monitoring across all levels of the education sector.

Assistant Minister Parker emphasized the crucial role of Planning and M&E Officers in measuring the success of education projects, stating that monitoring and evaluation help identify what is working, what needs to change, and how to improve.

He urged participants to fully engage in the workshop to enhance their preparedness in supporting evidence-based planning and decision-making within the education sector.

He added that the training forum is part of the Government of Liberia’s ongoing efforts under the stewardship of Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah to strengthen the education sector through capacity-building initiatives and strategic partnerships.
