Monrovia – The Secretary General of the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC), Samuel Ahmed Tukpah, has called on coaches who participated in a recently concluded coaching seminar to effectively apply their new skills to improve athlete development across the country’s sports federations.

The one-day seminar, held on February 28, 2026, at the Rose Garden on Crown Hill, brought together 22 coaches from a diverse array of sporting backgrounds.
Speaking at the close of the session, Tukpah described the high level of engagement as both timely and encouraging, noting that the initiative was specifically designed to bridge the gap in coaching capacity and elevate the performance of Liberian athletes on the international stage.
“We are pleased with the high turnout of coaches from different federations,” Tukpah said. “We hope they will put into better use the knowledge they have gained from this training to improve the skills and development of athletes within their respective federations.”
The seminar saw representation from several key sporting bodies, including: Amputee Sports, Taekwondo, Swimming, Boxing, Tennis Roller Skating and Athletics.
Participants focused on modern coaching techniques and strategic athlete development.
Paul Dennis of the Liberia Taekwondo Federation expressed his gratitude for the program, describing it as a vital step forward for his sport.
“I’m very impressed with the skills I gained,” Dennis noted. “I believe this training will help advance my coaching skills in taekwondo, and I hope the LNOC will continue to provide such important programs.”
Winston Cole, representing the Liberia Basketball Association, echoed these sentiments, urging the LNOC to maintain the momentum of the capacity-building efforts.
“I’m confident that the skills we gained will help improve our coaching,” Cole said. “We are grateful to the LNOC management for organizing such a unique and beneficial training program.”
The seminar is not a standalone event but part of a broader LNOC initiative to modernize coaching standards across Liberia.
Tukpah highlighted the contribution of Wilbert E. Freeman, an athletics coach who led the seminar.
Freeman is currently a participant in the International Coaching Enrichment Certificate Program (ICECP), a prestigious international development initiative.
His involvement allowed local coaches to benefit from high-level insights typically reserved for international sessions.
Freeman is expected to attend the next phase of his advanced training in Spain.
The LNOC Secretary General concluded by thanking all 22 participants, expressing optimism that the seeds sown during this seminar would lead to a more competitive and professional sporting environment in Liberia.
