Liberia: LEC Team Touches Ground in Barrobo, Maryland County to Carry Out Mapping Exercise

MONROVIA – The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) Team touched ground in Barrobo, Maryland County  on April 26 through the influence of Maryland County  Senator James P. Biney.

President Joseph Nyemah Boakai mandated the LEC Team to carry out a mapping exercise in Gedetarbo and conduct an assessment in Barrobo District, enabling the government to extend electricity to the area.

This development is an initiative by Senator Biney resulting from recent meeting between the elders in Maryland and the President.

The assessment process reached all three administrative districts in the county. Residents of Gedehtarbo and nearby communities may soon have access to electricity as the LEC has begun a major technical assessment in the area.

After years of darkness, there is now hope for electricity to transform citizens lives and boost businesses and improve education and healthcare services.

The assessment covered towns including Yelakaken, Hlodieken, Saywonken, Tobga Town and Rubber Bed home to over 2,500 people. According to LEC’s Rural Electrification Manager, Murphy M. Gibson, the project was directed by President Boakai following concerns raised by Senator Biney.

“We are here to ensure electrification is completed,” Gibson assured residents.

Locals didn’t hold back highlighting struggles with the lack of business opportunities, poor communication networks and dependence on firewood and charcoal

Community leaders, including Clan Chief Alexander Williams say electricity will be a game changer for development in the area. If completed on schedule, this project could mark a major breakthrough for rural electrification in Maryland County.
