On Monday, the agency announced the confiscation of nearly two tons of compressed marijuana in Montserrado County, the dismissal of several officers for drug abuse, and the recall of its entire Roberts International Airport (RIA) unit over misconduct concerns.
According to the Officer-In-Charge Fitzgerald Biago, the major operation took place on September 18, 2025 in District #17, Brewerville, Montserrado County following what he described as “carefully coordinated intelligence.”
According to OIC agents seized 1,929 kilograms of compressed marijuana valued at L$27.8 million (US$146,604).
As of the time of reporting, the LDEA had arrested two suspects namely Umar Mohammed, 38, a Nigerian national known in the subregion as “Dogote,” and Abdullah Kamara, 18, a Sierra Leonean citizen.
“This operation marks a major victory in our fight against drug trafficking and is a clear message to all who engage in this illegal trade Liberia will not be a safe haven for drug traffickers,” Biago declared.
Reforms and RIA Recall
Monrovia – The LDEA also announced it has dismissed six of its officers and one volunteer after they tested positive for drug abuse during the agency’s ongoing mandatory testing exercise.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, LDEA Officer-in-Charge Fitzgerald Biago disclosed that while all officers at the agency’s Monrovia headquarters passed the test, several assigned in Bomi County were found to have used illegal substances.

Those dismissed include officers C. Tony Granett, Nyumah Millimono, Lawrence J. Fejue, and Milton Berh, Roosevelt T. Kollie and an agent identified as specimen #M-43SEC-3, along with volunteer Larwou Yekeh.
“These officers are hereby discharged from all services of the LDEA with immediate effect,” Biago announced. “This is just the beginning. We are committed to purging the agency of any elements that compromise our credibility and mission.”
RIA Recall Over Misconduct
The LDEA also announced the recall of all of the personnel assigned to the Roberts International Airport (RIA) over misconduct concerns. Out of the eight officers withdrawn, OIC Biago said two are under investigation for allegedly underreporting the quantity of narcotics seized during a recent airport operation.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to restoring public trust and protecting Liberian communities from the devastating effects of narcotics.
“We thank our international and local partners, community members, and the media for your continued support. Together, we will dismantle the networks that threaten the very fabric of our society,” the LDEA statement added.
Unity Against Drugs
Despite the challenges, Biago has rallied on public support, thanking community leaders, civil society groups, schools, motorcyclists, and the media for their role in strengthening the agency’s resolve.
“To the Liberian people, your safety and the future of our youth remain our highest priority,” Biago said. “We remain committed to dismantling networks that threaten the very fabric of our society. Together, we can win this fight.”
