Ganta, Nimba County – As part of efforts to implement Pillar-2 of the government of Liberia’s Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) which focuses on enhancing a stable macroeconomic environment, enabling private sector-led economic growth, greater competitiveness, and diversification of the economy, the Government of Liberia through the National Port Authority (NPA), has advanced an ambitious plan aimed at developing the first Dry Land Port in the Country.
Consistent with this development plan, the Liberia Land Authority (LLA) through its Resident County Surveyor of Nimba, along with officials of the NPA, residents and local county officials in Kpoahpa Town, Nimba County (the designated site for the proposed Inland Port), over the weekend concluded a reconnaissance land survey.
The exercise is in an effort to further study the terrain for the possibility of conducting another survey that would likely increase the first 75 acres of land to at least 200 acres. Even though the 75 acres have been duly surveyed and demarcated, the residents of Kpoahpa, in support of the proposed Inland Port project, have promised to give up to 500 acres of land to the Government/NPA whenever needed for this project.
The Dry Land Port, when completed as envisaged, will serve as a major transit corridor for the transshipment of goods and services via rails from Ganta, Nimba County, to the Port of Buchannan and adjacent parts of neighboring Guinea and Ivory Coast.
This will enhance economic activities, through commerce and trade, improve investment and create job opportunities for thousands of Liberians.
An “Inland Port” also known as Dry Port is an inland extension of a seaport, usually connected by rail.
Residents of the Kpoahpa Town over the weekend expressed great excitement over the proposed development plan when officials of the NPA visited the town.
Madam Yah Yeedon, Town Chief of Kpoahpa Town, while welcoming the joint NPA and LLA delegation, emphasized the need for a collective effort by all Liberians to achieve the Country’s development goals.
She affirmed the commitment of the town’s people to any endeavor aimed at bringing development, growth and prosperity to them.
