Liberia: Judiciary Reporters Hail Chief Justice Gbeisay’s Confirmation, Call for Bold Reforms

AJURL said the confirmation of Chief Justice Gbeisay reflects his deep knowledge of the law and a track record of judicial competence.

MONROVIA – The Association of Judiciary Reporters of Liberia (AJURL) has welcomed the confirmation of Chief Justice Yarmie Quiqui Gbeisay by the Liberian Senate, describing it as a critical step toward strengthening the country’s justice system.

In a statement issued over the weekend, AJURL said Chief Justice Gbeisay’s confirmation marks a new chapter for Liberia’s judiciary, citing his extensive legal experience and professional integrity as assets that could usher in “dynamism and reform.” AJURL is led by Yassah Natasha Wright as its president.

“The confirmation of Chief Justice Gbeisay reflects his deep knowledge of the law and a track record of judicial competence,” the statement read. “His elevation comes at a time when the Liberian people are yearning for a judiciary that is fair, fast, and impartial.”

The group also commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for nominating Gbeisay and praised the Senate for what it termed a swift and decisive confirmation process. According to AJURL, the development reaffirms the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring access to justice for all Liberians.

AJURL used the occasion to call on the newly confirmed Chief Justice to prioritize judicial reform and restore public confidence in the justice system.

“We encourage His Honor to dispense justice with bold impartiality—without fear or favor—and to interpret and apply the law in strict adherence to the Constitution,” the statement said.

The group pledged its ongoing collaboration with the Judiciary, vowing to maintain the highest standards of journalism in its coverage of judicial affairs. It also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting public understanding of the courts and amplifying citizens’ voices on issues of justice and legal reform.
