Liberia: Fire Accident Kills Baby, Destroys Four Houses in Ganta City

Ganta, Nimba County A year old baby has burnt to death in the Congo community, Ganta City – Nimba County.

The baby, according to eyewitnesses was asleep when the fire, which also burnt down a six-bedroom house, started.

The 70-year-old woman who owns the houses, Yar Glaye Power, described the fire incident as a “mysterious one”.

She told FPA Nimba County Contributor that all of the occupants were out-door while she was in the yard with the children but only heard an explosion and within few seconds she saw the house ablaze.

Madam Glaye explained that the twin were with her prior to the incident but the one year old deceased identified as Saye Konah met his untimely death in one of the six rooms that got burned completely .

The incident in Cong Community in Ganta city brings to four, the number of  houses that have been destroyed by fire in the commercial city in less than a month.

Few days ago a three bedroom house also gutted fire in the Gbatu Quarter, while a 5 bedroom building in the Public Work yard community also burned down completely.

Many of the victims of these destroyed properties were unable to get any of their belonging from the houses. Residents of Ganta are benefiting from the cross border electrify supply but the city lacks an effective fire service department.
