Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency Foils Major Drug Operations in Paynesville and Zorzor

Preliminary investigations indicate that Morlue’s activities might be linked to a broader, transnational organized crime network involved in the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs both within Liberia and across its borders.

In a decisive move against drug trafficking, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) executed a successful operation in the Ruth Perry Community, Police Academy area of Paynesville, following credible intelligence. The operation, carried out by the LDEA’s Deputy Commander of the Zimbabwe Detail, involved a controlled “buy and bust” that led to the arrest of a key suspect and the seizure of significant narcotics.

During the operation, agents purchased suspected narcotic substances valued at LD$1,000. Upon completion of the transaction, LDEA agents swiftly descended on the scene, apprehending 35-year-old Dominic Morlue, a resident of the Bassa Town Community. A subsequent search of Morlue’s operating location yielded a staggering 100 compressed plates of marijuana, alongside 13 uncompressed plates and 454 processed compressed marijuana. The total estimated street value of the confiscated drugs stands at approximately USD $295,000, equating to LRD56,050,000.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Morlue’s activities might be linked to a broader, transnational organized crime network involved in the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs both within Liberia and across its borders. The LDEA is intensifying its inquiry into potential connections to regional and international drug trafficking syndicates.

Currently, Dominic Morlue remains in custody at LDEA headquarters, awaiting further investigation and formal charges as the agency continues its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking operations.

In a separate operation on April 15, 2025, the LDEA’s Lofa County Detachment, under the leadership of the County Chief of Operations and the Court Sheriff from the Zorzor Magistrate Court, executed a court-mandated search at the residence of 31-year-old Prince Smith in Zealakpala Town. This operation resulted in the discovery of one kilogram of marijuana.

Smith, also a member of the local Community Watch Forum, was swiftly arrested and charged with unlicensed possession of a controlled substance, a direct violation of the Liberian Drug Law. The case was forwarded to the Zorzor Magistrate Court on April 18, where Smith admitted to the possession of the marijuana during trial proceedings. In light of his confession, the court sentenced him to one year and two months in prison.

The LDEA reaffirms its dedication to enforcing Liberia’s drug laws, aiming to maintain the safety and well-being of communities nationwide. Through these operations, the agency underscores its relentless fight against illegal drug trafficking and commitment to public safety.
