Monrovia – The political leader of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), Musa Hassan Bility, has reaffirmed his commitment to completing the Sarkonedu School Project and upgrading critical farm-to-market roads across Quardu Gboni District.
In a scene marked by cheers, chants, and heartfelt expressions of gratitude, Bility received a rousing welcome from residents of Sarkonedu Town and Quardu-Gboni District to mark his first official visit in that Northern part of Liberia.
Addressing a crowd of hundreds gathered at the Mahudu house (Town hall) on Friday, September 5, 2025, Bility emphasized the urgency and importance of investing in education and infrastructure, calling them the backbone of development.
“We cannot talk about progress without talking about schools and roads,” Bility declared. “Our children deserve safe, dignified learning environments, and our farmers deserve reliable access to markets,” he asserted.
Bility assured the community that school construction will be accelerated, with oversight mechanisms in place to ensure transparency and timely delivery ahead of the next academic year.
He at the same time pledged to prioritize the rehabilitation of farm-to-market roads which he believes are critical to economic activity in the district.
The CMC Political leader asserted that poor road conditions have long hindered farmers from transporting goods, leading to post-harvest losses and limited market access.
“When roads are impassable, development stalls,” Bility noted. “We will change that narrative,” he stressed.
Also speaking, the community leaders, elders, and youth representatives took turns expressing their appreciation for Bility’s visit and pledges.
Elder Boakai Sheriff, a respected elder in the town, described the moment as a turning point for Sarkonedu, while several community leaders called the school project a beacon of hope for the next generation.
“We have waited long for this and now, we see light at the end of the tunnel,” Elder Sheriff added.
The atmosphere throughout the day was electric, with cultural performances, traditional drumming, singing and spontaneous celebrations marking the occasion while residents lined the streets with banners and palm fronds, chanting slogans of unity and progress.
As Hon. Bility departed Sarkonedu, the mood remained exciting, with many expressing renewed faith in the district’s future while for Sarkonedu, the message was clear: the road to transformation has begun and it is paved with hope.
Sarkonedu’s Journey to Educational Revival:
Established in March 1973, Sarkonedu School has served generations of children and youth across Quardu-Gboni and neighboring towns. For decades, it stood as the only junior high school within a 15-mile radius, offering quality education to underserved communities.
However, in April 2021, a devastating tropical storm destroyed the school, disrupting the education of over 500 students and threatening the future of thousands more.
The tragedy galvanized citizens both locally and in the diaspora, sparking a grassroots movement to rebuild.
Following extensive consultations, the community proposed a comprehensive educational facility: an Elementary, Junior & Senior High School and Vocational Center, estimated at $250,000 United States Dollars.
The initiative was unanimously endorsed and launched in May 2022, aligning with the government’s broader educational agenda.
To date, phase 1 through 3 including the foundation, elevation, and slab have been completed through the support of locals, citizens in the diaspora and national stakeholders including ALCOP Political Leader, Lusinee F. Kamara Sr., who personally travelled to Sarkonedu in 2022 to break ground for the project, marking the official start of construction.
Former House Speaker, Fonati Koffa, who also journeyed to Sarkonedu in 2023 to join the first anniversary celebration of the project, further energizing community commitment; Former President George Weah, Montserrado County District 14 Lawmaker Kerkula Muka Kamara, who is also the chairman of the Sarkonedu School Project, and Gboni Enterprise Chief Executive Office, Boakai Sheriff amongst others, have also lent significant support.
The final elevation and full completion remain outstanding, but the vision is clear that once finished, the Sarkonedu School will become the first and only senior high school and vocational center in the entire Quardu-Gboni District.
For Sarkonedu, the message is unmistakable and the road to transformation hasbegun and it is paved with hope, resilience, and community-driven action.
