Liberia: ANC Political Leader Alexander Cummings Debunks Funding Protest against Government

Monrovia – Mr. Alexander Cummings, the political leader of the Alternative National Congress, has slammed some supporters and executives of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change for linking him with financing to Monday’s planned missing billions protest.

Speaking to FrontPageAfrica Sunday, the ANC leader said while he “apologetically support Liberians’ right to protest”, he is not funding it.

“The Weah lead government is insulting the intelligence of the Liberian people. Liberians see the ineptitude, incompetence and corruption of the government and are spontaneously and organically protesting against that.”

Rep. Acarous Moses Gray (District No. 8, Montserrado County) told a news conference Sunday that the ANC leader should ‘man-up’ and stop hiding behind protesters.

“I want to challenge the authority-Alexander Cummings-let him take the courage as a man to lead the protest. Let him not chicken up. Let him not be a Coward,” Gray said Sunday during a press conference.

“When we decided to protest in this country, escorted by police, Ambassador Weah was part of us. Remember the history. Let him be courageous enough. Stop putting people children in the street. When we wanted to protest, we didn’t shy away. I didn’t shy away. Mulbah Morlu didn’t shy away.”

Several others stalwarts of the ruling party have also rained jabs on the ANC leader, accusing him of masterminding Monday’s planned protest.

CDC Chairman Mulbah Morlu, during a press conference on Saturday, September 22 also accused the ANC political leader for sponsoring the planned protest.

Morlu warned that Mr. Cummings would be held responsibility if the protest should erupt into chaos.

But the ANC leader, who played down the allegations, said the lack of a plan for how the ruling party intends to improve the lives of ordinary Liberians and the lack of a plan to improve the economy should be alarming to all Liberians including members of the CDC.

“The resultant depreciation of the LD and consequent inflation and high prices, the extravagant spending and lifestyle of President Weah and his government officials (purchasing and constructing new properties, extravagant travel, etc) and now the missing millions should provide very serious cause for concern,” the ANC leader averred.
