Monrovia – Jefferson Tamba Koijee, Secretary General of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and former Mayor of Monrovia, has extended birthday greetings to United States President Donald J. Trump, describing him as a global figure whose influence continues to shape conversations on trade, investment, and international partnerships.
In a statement issued on June 14, Koijee joined well-wishers around the world in celebrating Trump’s 80th birthday, an occasion that coincided with the United States’ observance of Flag Day and activities marking the country’s 250th independence anniversary.
“Today presents a unique and meaningful coincidence—the 80th birthday of President Donald J. Trump and the observance of Flag Day in the United States, a symbol of identity, resilience, and national pride,” Koijee wrote.
The CDC official said many Africans remember Trump’s administration for placing renewed attention on economic cooperation and engagement between Africa and the United States.
“As the world reflects on his journey, many across Africa recall moments of engagement that brought renewed attention to trade, investment, and economic cooperation,” Koijee stated. “His administration helped shape important conversations around self-reliance and partnership between Africa and the United States.”
Koijee also highlighted the historical relationship between Liberia and the United States, noting that ties between the two nations were reinforced during Trump’s first administration.
“For Liberia, my noble country, these relations carried special significance,” he said. “The continued diplomatic ties and the 2018 White House engagement with African leaders, including Liberia, reaffirmed our historic connection with the United States.”
The former Monrovia mayor further argued that political leaders are ultimately judged by the impact they leave on international affairs and public discourse, asserting that Trump’s influence extends beyond his years in office.
“History often judges leaders not only by their time in office, but by the impact they leave on global conversations,” Koijee noted. “President Trump remains one of those figures whose influence continues to be felt across borders.”
Concluding his message, Koijee wished the American leader continued strength and reflection as he marked the milestone birthday.
“On this special day, I extend best wishes for continued strength and reflection. Happy 80th Birthday, President Donald J. Trump,” he said.
Koijee’s remarks come amid ongoing political and diplomatic discussions across Africa regarding the future of U.S.-Africa relations and the role of American leadership in shaping economic partnerships on the continent.
