Sayjilium Town, Bomi County – The Raise Your Hand Foundation (RHYF) has officially completed the construction of a state-of-the-art 25-bedroom health center in Sayjilium Town, Bomi County.
By Edwin G. Genoway, Jr.
The facility, developed in partnership with A-Z Health Center, will serve over 4,000 residents from nearby villages, providing much-needed healthcare services to a region that has long struggled with inadequate medical infrastructure.
The project was led by Alexander Jackson, CEO of A-Z Health Center, who recognized the severe lack of healthcare facilities in the area.
With challenges such as poor road access, lack of electricity, and limited healthcare services, Jackson’s vision for a modern health center was driven by the urgent need to address maternal complications, pediatric illnesses, and health emergencies that have often resulted in preventable deaths.
“In many parts of this region, maternal and child health is a crisis,” said Jackson. “Without proper medical facilities, families face untimely deaths due to complications that could have been prevented.”
Jackson initially began offering basic healthcare in 2016 in a borrowed home in Jawajeh Town through the A-Z Health Clinic. However, the demand for services quickly outgrew the small clinic, prompting him to seek a more permanent and advanced solution.
His appeal to RHYF led to the construction of the new health center, which is expected to provide comprehensive medical care to the underserved population of Bomi County.
RHYF, a key partner in this project, has been instrumental in the center’s development. The foundation has supported staff training, health education, and the construction of the facility, making it one of its primary “Compassion Projects.”
At the official dedication ceremony, Shelley Spurlock, Founder and Executive Director of RHYF, praised the community for its vital role in bringing the project to fruition. “We are here to support and empower the community,” she said. “This is my ninth trip to Liberia, and I am proud to partner with Alexander and the local team to make a lasting impact on healthcare in Bomi County.”
Spurlock, who shared her personal connection to the project, highlighted her commitment to improving maternal healthcare, which has been a driving force behind her efforts in Liberia.
She also acknowledged the contributions of various individuals and institutions that have supported the project, including the ongoing educational sponsorships RHYF provides to Vera University and Bomi Community College.
Moinamah Jah, head of the Chief and Elder Council of Bomi County, expressed gratitude to RHYF and Jackson for their efforts. “This project is a blessing for Bomi County and the entire region,” he said. “We promise to protect and cherish this facility for the benefit of our people.”
With the opening of the A-Z Health Center, thousands of residents in Bomi County now have access to essential healthcare services that were previously out of reach.
