Wayzohn, Grand Bassa County – Over 300 Adults of a literacy program funded by Representative Vicent Willie have honored the Grand Bassa County lawmaker as an “education hero”.

The program, which runs at the Gaye Peter Mission School in Wayzhon, District Four, provides an opportunity for hundreds of adults to acquire basic reading and writing skills. The program started in September 2018 and has impacted hundreds of residents already.
On Saturday, May 25, the students that held an elaborate event to recognize the contribution of Representative Willie.
Matthew Gueh, 45, who is now in the 10th grade, spoke on behalf of the students, telling FrontPageAfrica that, “We were in darkness since we dropped from school years ago”.
“Most of us never thought of entering a class again because we have our children to support”, Gueh said. “So, we as students of this program are proud to name our young lawmaker as an educational hero “.
Gueh mentioned that at the beginning of the program they were discouraged by politicians who doubted that the program would have impacted adults or even continue.
“We want to praise God that their plans failed because we are attending free school now. Our teachers are regular and the school has over 300 adults,” he added.
Uriah Nagbe, the Vice Principal of the school, praised the Representative for his “farsightedness”.
“This young lawmaker has made us proud. He knows exactly what is going to benefit us. I want to encourage him to continue his support “, Nagbe said.
Earlier, Hon. Willie said he saw the need to open an adult literacy program in his district due to the many high school dropouts in the district.
“I started this program to help my people. They are not too old to learn but what keeps encouraging me is that the enrollment at the school keeps increasing,” he said.
“The enrollment shows that my people are serious, and I will continue to support this program”.
The lawmaker furthered that he’s planning to add vocational training to the program, while lauding the administartion.
“I want to say thank you to all the teachers and even you the students for your willingness to serve each other,” he said.
The adult literacy program is serving as a light for adults in the district.
