Monrovia – Former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf will depart for Zimbabwe on July 26, 2018 on an International Republican Institute- National Democratic Institute (IRI-NDI) election observation mission. Former President Sirleaf will be joined by US Congresswoman Karen Bass, former US Assistant Secretaries Constance Newman and Amb. Johnnie Carson as leaders of a joint international observer delegation for the July 30 scheduled elections.

“ The Zimbabwean elections provide an opportunity to make a clear break with the past that would be significant not only for the Zimbabwean people, but for all of Africa“, the former President noted.

The IRI-NDI mission will conduct activities in accordance with the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation and Code of Conduct adopted by the United Nations in 2005 and will base its findings on international standards for elections. Every activity of the mission will be conducted on a strictly independent and nonpartisan basis, without interfering in the election process and in conformity with the laws of Zimbabwe.

Before her departure for Zimbabwe, the former President will meet a key national commitment by attending the program marking the 171st independence anniversary of Liberia.
