Monrovia – The Government of the United States has deported five Liberian nationals to Liberia following their convictions and completion of prison sentences for various criminal offenses committed during their stay in the United States.
The five deportees arrived in Liberia on Wednesday, August 12 and were received by officers of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) at Roberts International Airport (RIA).
According to the LIS, the individuals were repatriated after serving sentences for offenses including aggravated felony, alien smuggling, immigration violations, drug possession and conspiracy to commit fraud.
The deportations form part of the U.S. government’s enforcement measures involving foreign nationals convicted of criminal offenses and who have completed their sentences.
The LIS said the deportees were formally received upon arrival and would be processed in accordance with Liberian immigration procedures.
