The Election Management Body (EMB) at Cuttington Graduate School has officially disqualified Pharaze Dekpah, the sole opposing candidate in the race for Senior Class President. Dekpah’s disqualification follows the EMB’s discovery that he failed to meet the required Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5, a mandatory guideline for candidates in the election.

The disqualification letter, dated April, was signed by the EMB Secretary General, Raymond Jerbo, and approved by the EMB Chairman, Mr. Andrew Garley. Also endorsing the decision were EMB advisor Kollie Manwen and Bertina Zeon, a member of the EMB.
Despite the clear academic requirements, rumors have begun circulating that the Vice President of the school, Dr. Rudolph Borpleh, is allegedly pressuring the EMB to allow Dekpah to remain in the race. These allegations claim that Dr. Borpleh is using his influence to ensure the disqualified candidate’s participation in the election, which currently has only one candidate, Wilfred O. Taikerweyah, remaining in the race.
When contacted for comment, Dr. Borpleh declined to respond to inquiries made by our reporter. A message sent to Dr. Borpleh seeking clarification went unanswered by press time.
In a press conference held at the Graduate School, Peter D.D. S. Bleedi, a representative of Team Wilfred, confirmed the disqualification of Dekpah, emphasizing that it was due to his failure to meet the GPA requirement. Bleedi expressed gratitude to the EMB for maintaining the integrity of the election process.
Addressing the allegations regarding Dr. Borpleh’s involvement, Bleedi strongly rejected the claims. He praised the Vice President’s integrity, asserting that Dr. Borpleh would never undermine the EMB’s rules for personal gain. “Dr. Borpleh is a man of high integrity. He would never stoop to influence student elections,” Bleedi said. He stressed that Dr. Borpleh would uphold the election guidelines and ensure only eligible candidates participate.
Bleedi also stated that his team was confident in their candidate’s qualifications and leadership skills, dismissing Dekpah’s candidacy as less compelling despite his name being on the ballot.
Acknowledging the EMB’s decision, Bleedi emphasized that Team Wilfred looks forward to a fair election and would be open to reconciliation with the disqualified candidate after the election. He also mentioned that while legal action is an option, the team hopes to avoid such steps.
With Dekpah now out of the race, Wilfred O. Taikerweyah remains the sole candidate for Senior Class President.
